Pros & Cons

  • There are many opportunities for growth and you can gain a broad exposure to different fields within the company if you wish. There is a good culture for young professionals and many opportunities to participate in career building opportunities (e.g. networking).
  • The team is the best part of working at the company. They have been good at helping me adjust and teaching me different technical aspect of the work. Along with the team AECOM provided a lot of resources to be able to learn different software.
  • The opportunity to work on the biggest projects with a highly skilled and supportive team that immediately put me to work, encouraging and teaching me to learn new skills and providing tasks where I could apply them. From day one, I felt valued, trusted and relied upon to contribute tangibly while simultaneously being supported to grow, both technically and personally.
  • Culture! Culture! Culture!! I still wake up every morning excited to go into the office, work and talk to my colleagues. No company or employer has managed to keep me on my toes for that long.
  • My team are supportive, in touch and understanding. They keep my wellbeing front of mind. They are always willing to discuss work load, level, availability, opportunity. No evident drama and is a respectful environment.
  • There is nothing bad I can think about. The only slightly irritating thing with any consulting company is having to complete timesheets every week, but that is not something specifically bad about this company.
  • The pace of work is sometimes fast and sometimes slow.
  • Nothing is particularly bad!
  • As a consultant the workload can vary and therefore there can be times with less work and times with more work.
  • Sometimes dealing with the IT systems can be a bit frustrating and slow you down.

Culture
The culture is great. There is always some social event to be involved with, but there is also no pressure to be involved if you just want to head home or have any other plans. The environment also feels really inclusive and welcoming to all, no matter their religion, gender, etc. Everyone is given the opportunity to, at some point meet the upper leadership and they often hold "town halls" which make them feel more approachable to raise concerns, etc.

Office Work Environment
Office space is amazing, especially love the ergonomic desks which helps with sitting all day, and the coffee machine. The location is great as I can walk from the train station to the office. Dress code is casual/formal which is great for days when you feel like being a little more comfortable.

Recruitment
1. Application 2. Psychometric assessment 3. Online Interview 4. In person interview Not really any technical questions they mostly wanted to know if you will be a nice fit with the team/culture. Asked a lot of previous experience in regard to different situations in order to understand your soft skills i.e., time management, conflict resolution. Show the passion you have for your work, research projects the company is involved in and elaborate how you would like contribute or what would be your interests in those projects.

Salary
AECOM has the most competitive remuneration I have seen in the engineering consultancy field. Health insurance, shares, free coffee, fruit bowls and lunches or some forms of other snacks provide. There is also the smart spending app, free counseling, flu shots and the list keeps going.

Training

Training
Training days are provided as an introduction to AECOM's systems and expectations. Most learning is on the job. There are usually compulsory online training modules for safety and inclusion which are well made.

I enjoy working in the office as most of my team chooses to come in around 3 days a week. However it's up to the individual if you need to wfh more days due to a long commute then that's usually fine. However, for the first couple months being in the office more is expected as it's easy to learn.
