The ABS is Australia's national statistical agency, providing trusted official statistics on a wide range of economic, social, population and environmental matters of importance to Australia.

For 2021, we expect to recruit a number of ICT graduates across our work program in various locations around Australia. We will also recruit a small number of Finance graduates to work in our Canberra office.

As an ICT graduate you may work in one of these areas:

  • Applications Development and support
  • ICT Infrastructure and Cloud Services
  • IT Service Management, ICT services and end-user support
  • Process Engineering, Testing and Automation capabilities
  • Cyber and Protective Security

As a Finance graduate you will work as a part of a team partnering with business units across the ABS to support and facilitate informed decision-making through:

  • financial reporting and planning
  • establishing and maintaining appropriate financial controls
  • providing customer-centric and solution-focused financial insights.

Graduates will participate in a 12-month development program providing:

  • on-the-job training specific to your role
  • formal graduate training program
  • Senior Executive shadowing
  • a group graduate project

We are open to considering graduates from all fields of study. Most of our ICT and Finance graduates have backgrounds in:

  • Computer Science
  • Information Technology
  • Accounting
  • Commerce

There is some coding (Python), but my day to day responsibilities are mostly about designing processes and systems around data. There is also quite a bit of manual work that is not so enjoyable (usually in Excel or SAS)

    • The work can be quite demanding at times.

    • Early on there are plenty of opportunities at the APS 4 & 5 to get experience in different team and progress. APS 6 and onward the opportunities become very limited.

    • Some processes are a bit bureaucratic.

    • The pace of work can sometimes be slow.

    • Some office locations are not very convenient.
