Current Opportunity

Our Corporate Tax experts are experienced in advising on major transactions, providing opportunities for tax effective results and avoiding any pitfalls. As part of our Tax team, you will consult our clients on various tax-related matters and guide them through the ever-changing landscape of tax legislation. We combine our understanding of the transaction, the commercial and tax implications, and your desired outcomes to deliver results.

Our Corporate Tax Graduate Program will give you the opportunity to:

  • Get hands on experience in a range of compliance obligations, including the preparation of income tax returns and work papers, fringe benefits tax returns, and other periodic lodgements.
  • Advise our clients on contemporary international, corporate and structuring tax issues, and applying this advice to produce practical business outcomes.
  • Help assist the Business Services Team with high end technical tax advice, ie complex tax returns and tax effect accounting for companies, trusts, partnerships and expatriates.
  • Develop your client management skills through attending meetings and dealing directly with client queries.
  • Liaise with statutory bodies regarding client matters.
  • Receive excellent training, mentoring and support throughout your career.

We welcome students who:

  • Are in their final year (or recently completed) of a Bachelor of Commerce or Business majoring in Accounting, Bachelor of Law, Postgraduate or similar degrees
  • Will be eligible for CA/CPA postgraduate study
  • Have strong analytical, critical thinking and organisational skills
  • Display solid academic achievement
  • Are involved in extra-curricular activities
  • Collaborative personality who thrives in a team, as well as independently
  • Have motivation for continuous learning and development
  • Consistently strong written and verbal communication skills including thorough legal research skills
  • Are an Australian or New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident at time of application

Pros and cons of working at BDO Australia

Pros

  • The culture in and out of the office is great.

  • My colleagues are always willing to get out of their way to help me.

  • Great opportunity to learn. People are nice and not getting annoyed when I ask questions.

  • Never any pressure to stay late.

  • The training is great, I have learned a lot in my time here.

Cons

    • Pay is relatively low, however this is industry-wide.

    • The graduate program doesn't rotate us through all the service lines.

    • Some managers are great and give constructive feedback. Others do not provide you with proper instructions.

    • Dishwashers are small... toilets are not flushed... desk are most of the time dirty.

    • Could include more women, however this is the industry.
