BDO’s Vacationer Program enables your career to take flight. You will be involved in meaningful client work, receiving support from your partners and team every step of the way.

As a vacationer, you experience on-the-job training, are allocated a buddy for the duration of your placement, and have the opportunity to work with professionals on real client work from day one. It’s a great opportunity to experience the BDO culture first-hand while working as part of the team and to start building professional relationships.

Vacationers are the future leaders of our firm. We understand choosing your career pathway while at university can be exciting, which is why we offer an inclusive and supportive community from day one.

Vacation programs are offered in June/July or January/February and are 4 - 8 weeks in duration. These programs give you the opportunity to gain real-life work experience in a service line of interest to you before considering what your graduate career path will look like.

As our business continues to grow, we have a range of positions available across our offices.

In Cairns we currently have vacationer opportunities in the teams outlined below, noting some teams may have degree requirements.

As part of your application process, we encourage you to select two teams so if your first preference is unavailable, we will consider your second preference. You will also be asked to select your preferred vacation program date/s.

  • Audit:
    • Eligible degrees: Business or Commerce degree (or similar), majoring in Accounting. All successful candidates must be CA eligible.
  • Business service:
    • Eligible degrees: Business/Commerce or Business/Law degree

What you need to succeed

  • You are a student in your pre-penultimate or penultimate year of university and completing an eligible university degree for the teams you are applying for
  • We want you to be involved with our clients and real work from day one! You’ll bring confidence in your communication and interpersonal skills for BDO to continue delivering excellence in client service
  • Aptitude towards adaptability alongside being naturally inquisitive to position BDO strongly for the future

Pros and cons of working at BDO Australia

Pros

  • The culture in and out of the office is great.

  • My colleagues are always willing to get out of their way to help me.

  • Great opportunity to learn. People are nice and not getting annoyed when I ask questions.

  • Never any pressure to stay late.

  • The training is great, I have learned a lot in my time here.

Cons

    • Pay is relatively low, however this is industry-wide.

    • The graduate program doesn't rotate us through all the service lines.

    • Some managers are great and give constructive feedback. Others do not provide you with proper instructions.

    • Dishwashers are small... toilets are not flushed... desk are most of the time dirty.

    • Could include more women, however this is the industry.
