The Internship

The Deloitte First Nations Internship program is a paid placement (4-8 weeks depending on location), based in our Melbourne office. The program provides Australian First Nations university students with professional capabilities and experiences related to their field of study by focusing on learning, building and maintaining strong connections and by providing meaningful opportunities for students to give back to the community through their work.

Penultimate year students studying a Bachelorโ€™s degree with majors / minors in Economics, International Business, Technology, Psychology, Accounting, Finance, Science, Mathematics, Law, Management, and Public Policy are encouraged to apply. As part of the Infrastructure and Capital Projects (ICP) team, you can expect to be spending most of your time working with the Victorian Government, helping to solve some of the most complex problems facing Victoria, develop strategies to respond to exciting new opportunities, and inform major investment decisions. Your work with Government will focus on โ€˜front-pageโ€™ and โ€˜big-ticketโ€™ issues such as new hospitals, public transport projects, or education-based infrastructure.

No prior work experience is required, however we do seek candidates with passion to develop their skillset and learn more about how Government can impact on the Victorian community.

Pros and cons of working at Deloitte Australia

Pros

  • The company provides a lot of training and learning resources, which are extremely valuable, especially for graduates.

  • Deloitte prides itself on flexibility, with employees able to work from home or from the office to suit their needs.

  • The culture is warm and welcoming. You are part of the team as soon as you walk through the door.

  • The exposure to large clients and proximity to partners opens opportunities for learning and development.

  • The Deloitte Flex program is really awesome and allows you to balance your work with your personal life easily.

Cons

    • While there is a lot of formal training, some grads feel that it doesn't always match the practical requirements of their role.

    • The pay is not always competitive compared to similar roles in other industries, and there are limited opportunities for bonuses.

    • Due to the hybrid working model, it can be difficult to connect with colleagues or build a strong team culture.

    • While there is a clear path for promotion, the process can sometimes feel slow or dependent on market conditions.

    • It can be stressful during the busy season.
