Salary at Department of Transport and Planning

I feel like a grad would be better paid at a VPS Grade 3 level. This would be more reflective of the level of work I've actually completed as a grad.

I am happy and satisfied with my pay.

I think the pay should be a bit more. At least in par with what the private companies are paying their employees for the same amount of work.

No bonuses but pay is competitive for the number of hours and level of experience

Pay could be improved in the current economic environment.

Pay is $60k+super for VPS 2 (graduate). I am doing a career change and took a substantial pay cut to join the program, which has shaded my view of this. However, I think there is still significant scope to make the pay more competitive for graduates (e.g. VPS 3 instead of VPS 2).

I believe that the pay could be a little higher for a specialised pathway.

Pay is average for grad roles, would l like more yes but l chose to take a pay cut to go into the program so l am overall happy. Also, the work we do would be classified as higher if we were not grads, which l think is a little annoying.

I was expecting a higher pay based on my qualifications, but I do see a progression in the future.

The graduate pay is quite low

It's disappointing that there's minimal incentive to work hard in government because there are no bonuses or promotions. There's very little financial incentive with this work. A wall is also hit in terms of pay because the private sector equivalent is paid a lot more for doing the same work.

Good for a graduate. But would be good to have opportunities to get bonus.

When I first started I was on a traineeship wage (Roughly $38k per year) but when I told my managers about an impending rent increase they were able to bump me up to a VPS1 wage (Roughly $52k per year).

Given the nature of government work bonuses are not expected, and that is completely ?ne with me. The pay scale in the Victorian Government is transparent and relatively standard across similar roles. I am satis?ed with my pay. I have no trouble paying for normal expenses like bills and housing, and make enough that I have disposable income to save for travel or investing in the future.

Wish we could have free PTV tickets like what you get at Yarra Trams, Metro etc...

It is what it is. I get no bonuses. I get what I get on my contract with no ability to get a raise. I was paid less than everyone else as my L&D was quite expensive.

Pay wise, there are not really any perks.

Annual Leave Allowance. Access to site tours and events.

I like the fact that I can double my leave if I use half pay and a reduction in private health insurance premiums for some providers for VPS employees.

Flexible leave and WFH policies (however can vary by department). Lot of acting and secondment opportunities after the grad year. There are limited other perks due to strict government due to potential conflict of interest / influence on decision-making etc.

Generous leave policy, no real fringe benefits.

Networking opportunities during work hours is probably the biggest one. Another one would be leave flexibility - leave is never denied and is in fact encouraged even without annual leave hours. If working on site, there's opportunities for paid travel - overnight accommodation, food expenses covered, travel expenses covered. However, this is very role dependent. However, reading that list of examples made me question whether we get any good perks...
