Energy Queensland is the group of electricity distribution, retail and energy services businesses 100% owned by the state of Queensland. As a Government Owned Corporation, we deliver electricity across Queensland through our ‘poles and wires’ businesses Energex and Ergon Energy Network.
Our retailer, Ergon Energy Retail sells this electricity to customers throughout regional Queensland. These essential service activities are also supported by a range of innovative products and services delivered through our Yurika brand.
Energy Queensland already has a highly skilled electrical engineering workforce, and the annual Future of Energy Engineering Scholarships will help to grow that to ensure Queensland has some of the best trained electrical engineers anywhere in the world.
Our organisation is at the forefront of embracing new technology, new ideas, alternative energy solutions and smart grid technology. We are building the network of the future to power Queensland's economy. We are an energy business that seeks to build strong connections and have a positive presence in the communities we serve.
Scholarship value
30-35 x $20,000 scholarships will be maintained each year covering students in their second year of study through to final year students.
Successful scholarship recipients will receive $20,000 per academic year towards their studies.
Who should apply
Our primary focus for the scholarship will be Electrical Engineering students. The majority of the scholarships will be awarded to electrical/ electronic degrees and therefore our efforts will target the seven QLD universities with Electrical Engineering faculties.
Dual / double-degree Electrical Engineers are particularly valued and will be viewed favourably. Integrated Bachelor's and Masters Degree's are eligible.
However, we also recognise that it takes a team to undertake a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to transform Queensland and deliver our "Electric Life" mission by 2030. Therefore, we will be offering a number of scholarships to complimentary engineering disciplines (could be single or double) including Mechatronic, Mechanical, Civil / Structural Engineers who are wanting to make an impact in the power industry.
Our intention is to spread the scholarships evenly across regional Queensland and South East Queensland.
We are targeting the seven QLD Universities with electrical engineering faculties which are defined a Regional or SE QLD below:
