Our Regulation and Assurance practice is recognised by clients for the quality and capability of our consultants nationally and internationally. Our Regulation and Assurance team has an exciting opportunity for a Graduate Advisor to support our capabilities.

Our team has a strong reputation for assisting power sector clients. We specialise in leveraging a deep specialist understanding of power system capability, electricity system and market operations to help clients extract value while supporting the transition to net-zero emissions. As a member of our team you will be able to learn from industry leaders and develop a deep appreciation of power systems and associated markets, including the water, resources & transport sectors.  We’ll help build your knowledge and capability across these sectors through assisting with technical assurance audits, pricing, regulation and access assignments.

Joining our Graduate Program in 2022, we’re currently seeking final year students studying Electrical Engineering, if possible with an additional, more business focussed degree.  The team is particularly looking for a student who enjoy building networks, have a willingness to learn and experience new opportunities in a multidisciplinary environment. A willingness to work on opportunities interstate or even abroad will be highly advantageous as your career continues to develop.

Working with a blend of remote and office-based work, you could be based out of our Melbourne, Perth, Sydney or Brisbane offices, where you’ll find yourself connected in with a strong cohort of graduates and other early career professionals – you’re sure to find your tribe once you start.

What will you do in the role?

  • Exposure to diverse range of industries, including short term client secondments
  • Undertaking power system analysis using industry standard packages including PSSE, PSS SINCAL, DIgSILENT Power Factory and PSCAD
  • Interrogating electricity market data to analyse the performance of the power system and associated markets
  • Proposal development and understanding clients’ needs
  • Production and support of client deliverables including presentations, technical reports & client workshops

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • An Electrical Engineering degree with strong academic performance
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • A natural curiosity and a passion for continuous, self-driven learning
  • Keen interested in contributing to the work necessary to achieve net-zero emissions targets while maintaining an affordable and reliable electricity supply

What we offer:

Outside of the technical development you’ll gain working within the Regulation and Assurance team, you’ll also join GHD’s Graduate Development Program.  Our learning will provide you with an integrated two-year, holistic experience as we start to develop our future leaders and technical experts. Every GHD Graduate across the globe is included in the program, so no matter where your career may take you, you’ll all start with the same learning experience.

During the two-year program, you will learn about our business and our values, your team and most importantly, yourself. You will develop your decision-making, communication, technical and important

Project management and admin. I have been given no project management training and am having to manage projects for PMs who do not care about their projects.

I have worked on a few different projects, but mostly doing similar repetitive tasks. I'm hoping to get some more interesting diverse work in the future once my current jobs are off my plate; it has been fine but mostly simple modelling / data entry / spreadsheet management / report writing / basic repetitive design, sometimes for interesting projects but the work itself has felt quite rote and not really engaging.

Pros and cons of working at GHD

Pros

  • The people I work with are so very supportive. It is also great to be part of a multidisciplinary organization. Any questions I have regarding another discipline are just a Teams message away from an answer.

  • Great mentoring - Amazing team & people - Senior employees motivate young graduates to push themselves - Interesting & variety of work

  • Working on a wide range of projects around Australia/overseas. The people I work with and the knowledge and time they are willing to share to help you learn

  • Good opportunities to explore different types of work, and in different environments. Travelling for work. Work with a range of professionals at different levels. Very clear structure and progression.

  • The people are really genuine, it really feels like the team wants everyone to have the best opportunities they can and support each other to produce the best results. Have never been made to feel like my development isn't important and feels like people and the company as a whole genuinely want to create an enjoyable workplace and help graduates grow.

Cons

    • Keeping your hours to budget. Sometimes things take longer because you are new, and it is stressful making sure tasks are done within the timeframe set.

    • A good work-life balance can be hard to achieve working 8-5, 10 days a fortnight. Especially when delivery dates are approaching and some additional working hours are sometimes expected.

    • Working with timesheets can be difficult when you are running out of tasks to complete, however, my team is great at handing out new work when I am out of tasks to complete

    • Not much for me personally, but I know others have had issues with little support from upper management or unreasonable expectations from line managers

    • The occasional short timeframes for delivery of projects that I have been pulled into last minute.
