Join a global professional services leader.

Join a global professional services leader. We are committed to solving the world’s biggest challenges in the areas of water, energy and urbanisation.

If you want to start a career with impact, solving everyday problems through to tackling some of the great challenges our clients and communities face, you’ll find that here at GHD.

You might think that sounds like marketing spin, but that’s the lived experience of our graduates, who participate in opportunities across the business, whether in different teams, different locations or different career pathways.  We’re a business built on finding your path in a supportive, collaborative environment.

Because a career is more than just the job, you'll connect with our broader Young Professionals and Women in GHD networks, to learn from their experiences and help develop broader social networks across the company.  There’s also the ability to participate in our GHD in the Community program where we partner with not-for-profit organisations to provide opportunities to work on pro-bono projects, volunteer and fundraise for philanthropic and humanitarian causes.

About the team:

The Asset Management team within GHD Advisory in Australia is a group of over 25 experienced professionals, partnering with clients in Australia and globally to deliver projects across the asset lifecycle from strategic planning, asset management systems development, asset performance and optimisation, asset operations, digital information solutions and asset data analytics. We deliver projects of varying complexity, including collaborating with major project teams from across GHD Advisory, GHD Digital and our more engineering design focused colleagues.

Joining our Graduate Program in 2022, we are currently seeking a final year Chemical or Mechanical Engineering graduate, especially those of you with a passion for data & analytics.  Whilst this role won’t have you flexing your technical design capabilities, you’ll still be able to bring the best of your engineering knowledge to bear on projects across Australia.

Working in an environment involving a blend of remote and office-based work, this position will be based out of our Brisbane office, where you’ll find yourself connected in with a strong cohort of graduates and other early career professionals – you’re sure to find your tribe once you start.

What will you do in the role?

  • Collaborate with multi-functional teams in delivering projects
  • Gaining strategic insights into asset optimisation using data analytics
  • Presentation of asset data using technology such as dashboards
  • Field work to capture asset data
  • Reliability Engineering techniques such as Root Cause Analysis, Reliability Centred Maintenance and Defect Elimination
  • Work with asset data in asset information systems
  • Process optimisation
  • Developing innovative ways of transferring asset information from major projects into operational systems
  • Assisting in developing asset strategies
  • Assisting in developing and assessing asset management systems aligned to ISO 55000
  • Working with systems to assess asset condition

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • A degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering, possibly with a secondary degree in data or technology to complement your skills
  • Attention to detail and good report writing skills
  • A desire to research new technologies and ways of gaining insights from data
  • The ability to collaborate and work within highly functional teams
  • The ability to problem solve
  • A natural curiosity and a passion for continuous, self-driven learning
  • Strong communication skills
  • The ability to multitask and prioritise work

What we offer:

Outside of the technical development you’ll gain working within the Asset Management team, you’ll also join GHD’s Graduate Development Program.  Our learning will provide you with an integrated two-year, holistic experience as we start to develop our future leaders and technical experts. Every GHD Graduate across the globe is included in the program, so no matter where your career may take you, you’ll all start with the same learning experience.

During the two-year program, you will learn about our business and our values, your team and most importantly, yourself. You will develop your decision-making, communication, technical and important leadership skills. We offer personal mentoring and a variety of development activities, including opportunities to work in our regional offices.

Project management and admin. I have been given no project management training and am having to manage projects for PMs who do not care about their projects.

I have worked on a few different projects, but mostly doing similar repetitive tasks. I'm hoping to get some more interesting diverse work in the future once my current jobs are off my plate; it has been fine but mostly simple modelling / data entry / spreadsheet management / report writing / basic repetitive design, sometimes for interesting projects but the work itself has felt quite rote and not really engaging.

Pros and cons of working at GHD

Pros

  • The people I work with are so very supportive. It is also great to be part of a multidisciplinary organization. Any questions I have regarding another discipline are just a Teams message away from an answer.

  • Great mentoring - Amazing team & people - Senior employees motivate young graduates to push themselves - Interesting & variety of work

  • Working on a wide range of projects around Australia/overseas. The people I work with and the knowledge and time they are willing to share to help you learn

  • Good opportunities to explore different types of work, and in different environments. Travelling for work. Work with a range of professionals at different levels. Very clear structure and progression.

  • The people are really genuine, it really feels like the team wants everyone to have the best opportunities they can and support each other to produce the best results. Have never been made to feel like my development isn't important and feels like people and the company as a whole genuinely want to create an enjoyable workplace and help graduates grow.

Cons

    • Keeping your hours to budget. Sometimes things take longer because you are new, and it is stressful making sure tasks are done within the timeframe set.

    • A good work-life balance can be hard to achieve working 8-5, 10 days a fortnight. Especially when delivery dates are approaching and some additional working hours are sometimes expected.

    • Working with timesheets can be difficult when you are running out of tasks to complete, however, my team is great at handing out new work when I am out of tasks to complete

    • Not much for me personally, but I know others have had issues with little support from upper management or unreasonable expectations from line managers

    • The occasional short timeframes for delivery of projects that I have been pulled into last minute.
