At GHD, we don’t just believe in the power of commitment, we live and breathe it every day.

If you want to start a career with impact, whether solving everyday problems through to tackling some of the great challenges our clients and communities face, you’ll find that here.  That’s why we pledge to empower all our people to make a positive impact and ensure you’re provided the necessary training and experiences to make those aspirations a reality.

We know community impact is important to our staff.  Our GHD in the Community program partners with not-for-profit organisations to provide opportunities to work on pro-bono projects, volunteering and fundraising for philanthropic and humanitarian causes.  As a business we also funnel some of our profits into the GHD Foundation, a registered charity that works to address disadvantage and inequality in children accessing STEAM education in our countries of operation.

What does being a Graduate mean for you?

Outside of the technical development you’ll gain working within your team, you’ll also join GHD’s two year Graduate Development Program. The Graduate Program will connect you peers across Australia, New Zealand, the broader Asia Pacific region and the Middle East.

We offer optional rotations in the second year of your program to help explore your career pathway, a structured approach to promotions and salary reviews over your first two years and a culture that is friendly, inclusive and not built on hierarchy.

Want to know more about life as a Consultant in GHD?

GHD, in partnership with The Forage, a global provider of job simulations, have developed a self-paced virtual internship where you’ll start to explore what a career in Management Consulting looks like.  You’ll hear from one of the Leaders in our team who’ll outline some of the topics we cover, as well as talking you through a bit more of what we do in GHD Advisory.

The Virtual Internship should only take you 4-5 hours to complete   We’re not asking you to undertake complex calculations, but rather understand some of the challenge we work with on a day-to-day basis.

To learn more, access our Virtual Advisory Internship here.

Who are we looking for?

We’re currently seeking final year students studying either a combined Engineering & Economics/Business/Law degree, or straight Economics, Business & Law degrees for a start in February 2025.

  • Analytical Thinkers - you should have a strong analytical mindset and the ability to dissect complex challenges to uncover insightful solutions.
  • Strategic thinkers - We value candidates who can think beyond the immediate and envision the bigger picture. Your strategic acumen will be critical in developing robust business cases, supply chain strategies, and sustainable approaches that align with our clients' goals.
  • Effective Communicators - clear and concise communication is paramount in our work. We are looking for individuals who can articulate their ideas effectively, both verbally and in writing, to convey complex concepts to various stakeholders.
  • Collaborative Team Players - success in this role hinges on your ability to collaborate seamlessly with diverse teams. Your capacity to listen, contribute, and work collectively will drive the innovative solutions that define our projects.
  • Curiosity and Adaptability - We seek candidates who are eager to learn and adapt in a rapidly evolving field. Your curiosity will drive you to stay current with industry trends and incorporate emerging practices into your work.
  • Proactive drive - we highly value candidates who exhibit a proactive approach and the ability to take initiative. We seek individuals who are not only self-motivated but also eager to go beyond their defined roles, showing a willingness to take ownership and lead where opportunities arise.

What does the rest of GHD’s process look like?

Once we receive your application, it will be reviewed by one of our Talent Acquisition team members who manage each of our regions.   From there, the rest of our recruitment process includes:

  • A Video Interview, where you’ll get the chance to introduce yourself and make another positive impression on both our TA team and hiring managers.
  • Formal interviews, either in person or via MS Teams.  In Advisory, our interview process has involved a case study presentation, where we ask you to review information from a pseudo client and present your thoughts & findings back to the panel.
Prior to our interview we’ll also ask you to go through some online testing through one of our providers, Saville.
  • An offer, where we’ll go through your hourly rate and the start date for our program, as well as flagging our background checking process.

In our application process, we want to be as inclusive as possible to ensure everyone has an equitable chance of proceeding through.  If you identify as someone who is neurodiverse, or who has a disability and may require changes to any of the processes outlined above, please respond to the question at the start of our process and we’ll be in touch where appropriate.

Project management and admin. I have been given no project management training and am having to manage projects for PMs who do not care about their projects.

I have worked on a few different projects, but mostly doing similar repetitive tasks. I'm hoping to get some more interesting diverse work in the future once my current jobs are off my plate; it has been fine but mostly simple modelling / data entry / spreadsheet management / report writing / basic repetitive design, sometimes for interesting projects but the work itself has felt quite rote and not really engaging.

Pros and cons of working at GHD

Pros

  • The people I work with are so very supportive. It is also great to be part of a multidisciplinary organization. Any questions I have regarding another discipline are just a Teams message away from an answer.

  • Great mentoring - Amazing team & people - Senior employees motivate young graduates to push themselves - Interesting & variety of work

  • Working on a wide range of projects around Australia/overseas. The people I work with and the knowledge and time they are willing to share to help you learn

  • Good opportunities to explore different types of work, and in different environments. Travelling for work. Work with a range of professionals at different levels. Very clear structure and progression.

  • The people are really genuine, it really feels like the team wants everyone to have the best opportunities they can and support each other to produce the best results. Have never been made to feel like my development isn't important and feels like people and the company as a whole genuinely want to create an enjoyable workplace and help graduates grow.

Cons

    • Keeping your hours to budget. Sometimes things take longer because you are new, and it is stressful making sure tasks are done within the timeframe set.

    • A good work-life balance can be hard to achieve working 8-5, 10 days a fortnight. Especially when delivery dates are approaching and some additional working hours are sometimes expected.

    • Working with timesheets can be difficult when you are running out of tasks to complete, however, my team is great at handing out new work when I am out of tasks to complete

    • Not much for me personally, but I know others have had issues with little support from upper management or unreasonable expectations from line managers

    • The occasional short timeframes for delivery of projects that I have been pulled into last minute.
