Our Sydney program runs for 9 weeks, consisting of two four-week rotations across the firm's practice areas. During both rotations each clerk is assigned a supervising partner, mentor and buddy to assist with on-the-job training. Participating in our customised in-house training will build your confidence and help you understand the mechanics of legal practice.
While your main focus will be corporate work, everyone has the opportunity to assist on pro bono matters, innovation projects and participate in firm-wide activities. As you progress through your rotations you will develop invaluable skills and knowledge and gain first-hand experience of our various practice groups. You'll have the chance to jump right in and immerse yourself in a leading corporate law practice. And we'll encourage you to contribute ideas and your own fresh perspective.
The Sydney program is open to students in their penultimate or final year of study. We value diversity and individuality, so we don't just look for strong academic results. We're looking for candidates who are interesting people, can clearly demonstrate their ambition, creativity, entrepreneurial spirit and ability to collaborate.
"My clerkship experience with G+T has been nothing but positive. I have enjoyed the many facets of the program from the pro bono project where we produced a report on indigenous self-governance, to the innovation project where we developed an app to help incorporate companies, to being in the practice groups and getting an idea of what the day to day life is like for a lawyer in those groups and of course the weekly clerk sport! I have been challenged and given multiple opportunities to learn, grow and quench my curiosity."
– Elinor Bowman, 2020 Summer Clerk, Macquarie University
"I found at G+T that everyone made a genuine effort to include the clerks, understand what work interested them, and to make them feel included and part of the team. I was pleasantly surprised when I noticed partners wanted to know what I liked doing outside of the law. To me, this showed that the culture at G+T is one that fosters an environment that is welcoming, even from partner level."– Ravi Dutta, 2020 Summer Clerk, University of Technology, Sydney
Mostly grad-level work, sometimes involving first drafts of significant documents, but usually background research, doc review, preparing annexures, etc.
Reviewing / drafting asset sale and purchase agreements, client meetings, drafting email advices, due diligence
I'm regularly drafting pleadings, regulatory submissions and client advices. My team has a good spread of transactional advisory, litigation and regulatory work so I get to try my hand at everything.
