Corporate Social Responsibility at Gilbert + Tobin

G+T was the first national law firm to launch a Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) in 2008, which built on a 20-year history of active engagement with First Nations communities which continues today, including through Danny Gilbert's leadership role in the Voice campaign. G+T also has the G+T Foundation which was established in 2019 and aims to advance social and public welfare, human rights and other charitable purposes. Since July 2019, the Gilbert + Tobin Foundation has fundraised $1 million dollars to support worthy charities in need. We have an annual firm wide trivia night to raise money in support of the foundation.

G+T is committed to the Voice but otherwise lots of pro bono initiatives.

I think we lead the field in CSR initiatives. G+T is considered symbiotic with CSR movements and initiatives which are of importance to the general population as well as minorities. There is significant resources put into pro bono initiatives to assist with First Nations peoples as well as immigrants and refuges who are seeking protection visas, or residency in Australia.

I know they work do a lot of work on these areas but don't know too many specifics

Our CSR is quite good - we do a lot of pro bono and are also trying to support indigenous parties to get a seat at the negotiating table.

Have worked on various indigenous and refugee matters which have been satisfying both professionally and personally.

I believe that my company is very committed to CSR through its projects and sponsorship activities. For example, it undertakes significant pro bono work aimed at supporting first nations peoples.

Really great Pro Bono team who are dedicated to supporting their own lawyers on pro bono matters, as well as broadening this to other teams and assisting them to participate in Pro Bono.

I don't know much about their projects but often see different initiatives over email

Mainly I have done work for clients on CSR and I am a part of the diversity council.

G+T and Danny Gilbert were outspoken advocates and activists in furtherance of the Indigenous Voice to Parliament. It was critical to see the firm adopt a stance and stick to it.

I have been involved in two Australian Business and Community (ABCN) Mentoring programs, which involve regular mentoring sessions with high school students from less privileged backgrounds. The firm welcomes students into the offices and makes an effort to ensure the experience is positive for these students.

The firm has a dedicated pro bono team with two dedicated pro bono partners and provides nearly the highest pro bono contribution per lawyer out of any law firm in the market.

I have participated in some interesting and rewarding CSR programs, including one partnership with ABCN that resulted directly from one of the partners who was committed to making a difference in certain disadvantaged high schools

There are plenty of CSR initiatives the firm runs and allows its employees to get involved in - for example, I have helped as a mentor in the Australian Business and Community Network's program to encourage school students to consider STEM subjects and careers that has taken place at my employer's office

Constant work being performed by the pro bono partners that anyone in the firm can get involved with, G+T is a market leader here

We have a good pro bono practice but could be more ongoing initiatives in the Perth office as pro bono work appears to be done a lot by a few individuals but not spread around.

Gilbert + Tobin has a dedicated pro bono team, managed by two pro bono partners. Every lawyer in the firm works on pro bono projects as well. This is highly encouraged and ever incentivised, because employees who do more than 50 pro bono hours in a year do into a ballot to win a trip to Arnhem Land to engage in a cultural learning experience. I have been able to work on several pro bono projects since starting.
