Market Maker: Our Market Makers are highly skilled with mathematics and love problem-solving. Working closely with our technologists, they develop algorithms and execute trades through our world-class proprietary trading software. Theyโre comfortable with decision-making and adapting to changes rapidly.
Quantitative Trader: Our Quant Traders perform in-depth analysis to creatively interpret data, develop strategies and identify opportunities in the market. Where our Market Makers are the speed demons, our Quant Traders work on longer-term projects spanning large data sets.
Positional Trader: Our Positional Traders have a passion for financial markets and an appetite for risk. Entrepreneurially-minded, they explore new strategies and make decisions based on their knowledge.
As you progress through your training, you will gain experience in both trading styles. Weโll work closely with you, monitoring your skills, performance and preferences and help you find the trading career that is right for you.
What you'll do:
- Start with a seven-week international traineeship in two of our global offices, becoming familiar with the different areas of our business while being trained by the worldโs best Traders and Engineers.
- Develop, maintain and improve trading models, algorithms and systems.
- Manage the execution and risk of complex trading portfolios.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with our Developers and Engineers to understand and improve technical infrastructure.
- Solve complex problems and make decisions that will have a direct impact on the companyโs trading profits.
- Research new market opportunities.
- Have a real-time connection to the world economy and gain the knowledge to act on it.
- Be supported by a mentor specifically chosen to work with you and guide you through each step of your traineeship and onboarding process.

What you have:
- An academic background in Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, Actuaries, Finance or Economics with a minimum Distinction average, or equivalent.
- Strong analytical skills and desire to solve complex problems.
- A competitive drive to win and thrive in a team environment.
- An inquisitive mind, self-sufficiency and resilience.
- The ability to make decisions in uncertainty and remain focused under pressure.
- A genuine passion for financial markets (no prior knowledge or experience is required).
- The ability to commence in either February or August 2023.

Reviews
I work on a project to simplify some parts of the trading system. I start the day with looking at emails and a standup meeting. Then, I review other people's code or start brainstorming/designing/coding myself. Sometimes there are urgent bug fixes that need to be done, so that would be prioritised over my other to-dos.
The role is extremely autonomous and requires a large amount of personal ambition to push forward - which is good for someone with drive and creativity. Daily roles include creating new strategies and improving current production environments
Operate and delegate tasks to others to ensure systems are healthy and running correctly Troubleshoot and collaborate with others on problems that may arise Provide detailed analysis of the systems I operate Roll out new features and take responsibility for them.

The people are great! It's a super collaborative environment which makes it perfect for learning as a grad. Most people aren't from Sydney which also means it's easy to make friends.
There is an awesome culture, everyone is super supportive, they give you a lot of responsibility and trust straight away.
Interesting domain, intelligent people, great perks (breakfast, lunch, dinner, multiple excursions etc.)
IMC provides many employee benefits and care about the well-being of their employees. The culture at IMC is also very different from the usual HFT firms. There are also a lot of opportunities to collaborate with other offices in various challenging projects. IMC gives a lot of support to charity foundations which help tackle different world problems such as education, primary needs and health care.
Responsibility is given to employees as they start out - it's a great way to prove your talent. Grads are often recognised for their contributions. Hard work, clever thinking and collaboration are at the centre of the culture The work is intellectually stimulating and challenging - there is never a boring day at work.
Cons
Can be stressful at times, but comes with the job.
Trading can introduce stress sometimes. But that's the nature of trading.
We have abundant of food, which more often than not gets thrown away once they are expired.
Slightly flat hierarchy makes it difficult to ascertain certain career pathways.
Sometimes leftover overnight food is thrown away.
