About the Program

Our goal is to give you a real sense of what itโ€™s like to work at Jane Street full time. Over the course of your internship, you will explore ways to approach and solve exciting problems within your field of interest through fun and challenging classes, interactive sessions, and group discussions โ€” and then you will have the chance to put those lessons to practical use.

As an intern, you are paired with full-time employees who act as mentors, collaborating with you on real-world projects we actually need done. When youโ€™re not working on your project, you will have plenty of time to use our office amenities, physical and virtual educational resources, attend guest speakers and social events, and engage with the parts of our work that excite you the most.

If youโ€™ve never thought about a career in finance, youโ€™re in good company. Many of us were in the same position before working here. If you have a curious mind, a collaborative spirit, and a passion for solving interesting problems, we have a feeling youโ€™ll fit right in.

About the Position

We are looking for individuals eager to use their technical, organizational, and communication skills in an immersive and fast-paced environment to join our TDOE team. As a Trading Desk Operations Engineer (TDOE) intern, youโ€™ll be integral to the firmโ€™s success, helping to build and maintain desk infrastructure that supports the trading of thousands of financial products across 200 venues in over 45 countries.

TDOE Interns wear many hats, helping to manage the operational side of the trading deskโ€™s activities and interfacing with various groups within the firm to ensure our work is accurate and efficient. Youโ€™ll work alongside full-time TDOE's to take on projects like:

  • Managing and optimizing infrastructure and operational processes
  • Supporting trading systems and workflows by executing data queries and coordinating with stakeholders
  • Designing and implementing solutions for a range of trading and operational related issues on the desk
  • Communicating with clearing firms and external counterparties to settle and clear trades

During the program, you'll work on real-life projects that expose you to the variety of problems we solve every day. As you become familiar with the daily operations of the desk, youโ€™ll learn the flow of the trading and settlement cycle and the regulatory and operational considerations of each step.

Our trading desks are central to our collaborative office environment, and we believe the best way to integrate interns is through a hands-on, interactive approach. Youโ€™ll utilize technical coding, skilled organization, and collaborative problem-solving to support work of the larger TDOE team.

About You

We donโ€™t expect you to have a background in finance or any other specific fieldโ€”weโ€™re looking for smart people who enjoy solving interesting problems. Weโ€™re more interested in how you think and learn than what you currently know. You should be:

  • Planning to graduate in 2024 or 2025
  • A critical thinker with a strong quantitative foundation and an interest in expanding your programming skills
  • Able to use technical knowledge and strong collaboration skills to reach solutions
  • A reliable team player with a โ€œno job too smallโ€ attitude
  • Interested in finance and has a passion for STEM
  • Able to balance competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Proactive, organized, reliable, and courteous
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Humble about what you know and donโ€™t know; eager to ask questions and learn new things
  • Fluent in English

Please note: Jane Street will provide flights to and from Hong Kong as well as accommodation throughout the entirety of the program.
