Application Process & Interviews at Johnstaff

The interview process took place over a 2-3 week period consisting of two Teams Interviews. After the initial interview discussing my qualifications and experience a second interview was undertaken to discuss my interests outside of work and i was given the opportunity to ask questions about the Graduate program and Company. The assessment process and documentation Johnstaff required after the interviews was very clear and simple.

First Step - Phone Interview with the Project Manager I would possibly be working with.

The interview process was smooth and a lot less daunting than other interviews I had before my employment at Johnstaff. As it was during COVID I was unfortunately unable to attend my interviews in the office. However, I was involved in two interviews during the process.

The interview process is pretty straightforward. The first step for me was a phone interview followed by a face to face interview with the business unit principal.

I was first introduced to the recruiting team at the university careers fair, not long after submitting an application for the Graduate Program. After meeting the team at the fair and submitting my CV online, I was invited to an interview with the Principal of the Victorian business unit. Shortly after, I was offered a position in the Graduate Program.

I had to submit my resume and university transcript. Following this I completed a phone interview and then a face to face interview before being offered the position.

It is an online submission followed by a in person interview.

I submitted my CV and academic transcript and then participated in a phone interview before coming in for a final face-to-face interview.

Questions included what my day-to-day role was in my previous role and what skills do i believe will be required to undertake this role and be successful.

What do I know about the company? What do I understand by Project Management?

Questions I was asked ranged from previous experiences, reasons for wanting to be a part of the company, my career ambitions and personal interests and hobbies.

The interview is mainly based about finding out what type of person you are. They want to get to know the most about you and how you are able to converse with new people.

I didn't even realise I was being interviewed! I thought we were waiting for someone else to come in to start but before I knew it I was finished. We mostly talked about interests both professionally and socially and it was clear they focused way more on getting to know who I was than how I did at university.

Reviewing your resume and think about what skills/experience you have that will be of value to the company.

Be confident and honest about what you know.

Ask as many questions as possible, the team at Johnstaff are very inviting. The advice I would give to best prepare would be to have a good understanding of what discipline you want to go into so you can ask specific questions.

Be yourself and don't feel like you need to know everything now and have the experience of someone who has worked many years in the industry. The process is more focused on understanding whether you would be the right fit within the team and the company culture and your attitude to learning and developing with Johnstaff.

Be proactive and show that you are interested in this line of work and that you have the ability to learn and develop.

Research the company prior so you can relate your interests to them and have a couple stories/examples prepared in the back of your mind. But honestly just relax. It was the easiest interview I did because they were so friendly.
