There appears to be strong commitment to diversity at the firm. There are social groups dedicated to ethnically diverse and lgbtiqa+ groups, there are many resources provided for women's issues (e.g. Presentations/readable material) and there is a reconciliation action plan and associated events which occur throughout the year.

Minterellison is the best firm i have worked for when it comes to diversity. There are womens, lgbt and women of colour groups at minters. Minters has a great parental leave policy and recently introduced that the secondary partner can take as much leave as the primary partner. As someone with mental health issues, minters adapted my work role while i recieved treatment so that i could still maintain my job and progress with my career.

The lgbtiqa community is particularly supported at our firm with the prime group and support of mardi gras in sydney. I have also been invited onto the rap committee which is amazing for developing awareness of first nations cultural issues and developing tertiary education in first nations regional communities.

High representation of otherwise minority communities in commercial law. Firm has commitment to 40:40:20 gender distribution at the partnership level, which is looks on track to achieve. Great parental leave perks.

I feel that my company is very supportive and committed to diversity. We have positions and teams dedicated to improving the firm's diversity and accessibility. I feel that the firm excels in their goals and efforts towards making recruitment, retention, promotion, childcare, maternity leave etc, accessible to all and diversely inclusive.

The way i'm treated in the firm is not a problem at all, as i feel very safe and welcomed but i do believe that there is a lot more work that needs to be done on this front. support with workloads and flexibility with hours when dealing with parental responsibilities, extra curriculars, medical issues, pregnancy and even childloss is incredible. I've notice that people only really leave the firm because they get great opportunities through secondments that become permanent or go into consulting, in house, overseas etc. Not really to a rival firm, which speaks magnitudes about retainment.

I think minters is doing well in terms of gender diversity (from what i've seen and heard). The ethnic diversity does not seem too obvious at first glance. Having said that it does seem quite a fair workplace in terms of issues such as promotion, child care, flexible work arrangements and maternity leave.

Very impressed with flexibility with women working part time due to family commitments.
Graduate, Brisbane - 13 Oct 2015
The firm is clearly dedicated to diversity. There are three women in my team working part time due to family commitments. In the last year more women were promoted to partnership than other firms promoted men and women to partnership. A new lgbti community is about to be launched within the firm and there has been a huge wave of support for it.

I think minters is on the right track to appointing women in senior roles however more needs to be done to retain women in the associate/senior associate levels so that they end up as partners of the firm. with ethnic diversity i think the firm has done a good job.

What does your company do to attract applicants from less privileged backgrounds?

There is a program which supports people of aboriginal background to experience the workplace. Whether this leads to jobs i am not sure. The pro bono section of the firm greatly supports a less privileged high school students - whether this leads to jobs at my firm i am not sure.

Minters is better than many other firms with regards to its clerkship intakes - it looks beyond the typical usyd/unsw candidates to less popular universities. More should be done to enhance the programs at these universities to attract candidates.
Graduate, Sydney - 13 Oct 2015
There is a scholarship-like program that supports prospective clerks who have an indigenous background.

The firm participates in various programs to assist disadvantaged people. One such program that i was a part of was goals. I have heard of many other programs as well as pro bono work.
