Join our Markets Team

Our Markets team utilise Sales, Trading and Research expertise to provide local and offshore customers access to both traded and illiquid markets, including fixed income, money markets, credit, derivatives, currencies and commodities.

Our business covers every segment of the corporate and investor markets, from global supranational through to High Net Worth customers looking to build their investment portfolio.

We’re looking for disciplined graduates who have a passion for building a career in areas like trading, sales, economic research or quantitative research. Graduates who are great communicators, enjoy solving quantitative problems, are comfortable working with numbers or code to find a solution and are looking for a high level of personal ownership. Graduates who want to be part of a dynamic environment where learning agility, attention to detail, complex problem solving and confidence are paramount.

Below are examples of specialist teams where you may complete a rotation.

Foreign Exchange – Spot FX is used by customers as hedges to protect themselves against changes in FX rates, to refine their risk profiles or to speculate on FX moves. Our FX team is a leading provider of foreign exchange products in Australian and New Zealand markets and a major liquidity provider in all G10 currencies.

Interest Rate Derivatives – IR Derivatives are used by customers as hedges to protect themselves against changes in market interest rates, to refine their risk profiles or to speculate on rate moves. NAB is recognised as a leading market-maker and liquidity provider in AUD and New Zealand dollar (NZD) interest rate markets.

Commodities – We provide customers with solutions to manage their exposure to commodity price movements, along with structured commodity investment opportunities.

Investor Sales – Our team covers clients with an ‘investor’ profile including banks, sovereigns, asset managers, hedge funds, superannuation firms and high net worth individuals. We bring a complete enterprise to enterprise approach involving product and platform solutions across Fixed Income, FX, Derivatives, Structured Products & Deposits.

Market Solutions – Our Markets Solutions team works closely with our customers on opportunities to improve yield outcomes, reduce costs, access collateral and protect capital.

Research – Research provides coverage of the Australian and New Zealand economies, as well as analysis and trading strategies for foreign exchange, fixed income and commodities. You may be familiar with their podcast The Morning Call which is extremely popular with clients and other market participants!

XVA – This desk centralises valuation adjustments on derivatives across the business to hedge credit and funding risks and determine capital requirements under bank capital adequacy rules.

Quantitative Research – This team provides quantitative solutions to Markets and other business areas across several asset classes. The solutions delivered range from front office tools or “apps” to quantitative infrastructure to bespoke analysis and consultation services.

Cons

    • Sometimes we have to navigate lots of old tech and systems.

    • Because it’s such a large organization, it can be tricky to know the ins and outs of what each function does, but that comes with time, experience and exposure.

    • Sometimes have to work long hours.

    • There were lots of stages of the interview process

    • We don’t get any bonuses. Apparently they used to but they stopped a few years back.
