About Strategy&

At Strategy&, we like to call ourselves practical strategists with a sweet spot for solving the most complex problems. We do this as we work alongside our clients to define a pragmatic, globally informed response to their organisation’s most important strategic challenges. We bring 100 years of strategy consulting experience and the unrivalled industry capabilities of the PwC network to this task. With offices in 152 countries and almost 328,000 people, we are among the leading professional services networks in the world.

About the scholarship

We understand that we’ll only solve our clients’ most challenging strategic problems if our team includes diverse experience, talent and ideas. For this to happen, we empower our people and encourage them to bring their whole selves to work. This creates an environment that’s inclusive, collaborative and harnesses our unique differences to solve tough problems. We are looking to hire and reward exceptional students who share our commitment to diversity and inclusion (D&I).

If you are in your penultimate year of undergraduate or postgraduate studies (completing in 2024) and are interested in joining Strategy&, we welcome your application to our scholarship program. We’re looking to engage with students from a range of academic disciplines, backgrounds and experience.

Successful applicants will receive a scholarship of up to $15,000 and a four-week paid internship with the Strategy& team. Based in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane or Canberra, the internship can start whenever works best for you between August to mid-December 2023! Scholars will receive ongoing support and guidance from a senior mentor at Strategy& and throughout the internship. Following completion of the internship, scholars may have the opportunity for an early offer for a graduate position with the Strategy& team.

The scholarship will be paid as follows:

  • $5,000 on commencement of the internship;
  • And, if you are offered and accept a full-time graduate position with the Strategy& team, $10,000 to be paid upon commencing the graduate position.

About you

Most importantly, you share our passion for diversity and inclusion. You are curious and love to learn. Your unique mix of talents and skills includes:

  • Leadership skills that you have acquired through internships, study abroad programs, volunteering or work experience.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities with outstanding verbal and written communication skills allowing you to articulate complex problems.
  • Relationship-building skills and a balanced IQ/EQ.
  • Commitment to collaborating effectively and an ambition to deliver projects that have a meaningful impact.
  • You’re in the penultimate year of your undergraduate or postgraduate degree, and have the right to work in Australia.

Do you share our passion for diversity and inclusion?
In your cover letter, help us understand why you’d like to join Strategy& as well as why diversity and inclusion are important to you by addressing the following (max. 1 page):

What is a dimension of diversity you are passionate about advancing in society, and why? In your answer, please describe your track record of engagement with this dimension of diversity, highlighting any work you have done to foster greater inclusion of diversity within your circles.

Varies from project to project. On my current project this involves creating business and technical requirements, hosting standups, communicating progress to the client, managing the sprint cadence (creating the meetings on outlook), liaising with the QA on test estimates , providing testing assistance when needed and explaining the business requirements to the developers to get the solution design created.

Pros and cons of working at PwC Australia

Pros

  • The people here are all genuine and open... I enjoy working in a high-performing environment where I feel that my skills are developing every day.

  • The support and growth opportunities from the team of individuals with different experiences.

  • From the day I started, I felt incredibly welcomed and supportive. No matter how high up in the company someone was they still would give me the time to help me with any questions I had. My team made work fun and enjoyable.

  • The office itself is great, especially the access to the cafe where free warm drinks are available before 12. The company has a flexible 'dress for your day' dress code, so people can often come in relaxing clothing, although many still prefer business wear

  • Our managers are highly accessible and make excellent mentors.

Cons

    • The working hours can be quite demanding

    • I think everyone, not just PwC, would like to be paid more for what they do and when compared with other graduate roles we are paid to a similar standard.

    • Time in grade is the main driver for promotion.

    • The pressure at times to meet deadlines that may not necessarily be that realistic and the billable hour demands.

    • There should be more formal training programs for technical skills here.
