The best but also the most challenging part of my job is that I have got the opportunity to explore different roles and engage with diverse clients from all industries. Every project is a new start. It is exciting to own experience from variable positions.

What's your job about?

I am working on a digital consulting company, and my roles vary upon projects. For example, I have worked as a System Admin in one project and a Business Analyst in another. The responsibilities depend on positions. One of the typical days for the System Admin looks like: check backlog, run batch jobs and monitor performance. The repeated routine may seem a little boring nonetheless it is crucial to ensure the system and application run as expected. As for a Business Analyst, two-third of the time is spending on meetings and engagement with all levels of stakeholders. Information gathering is part of the core work for a BA. And the rest of the time is spending on documenting stories and processes.

What's your background?

I landed in Australia in 2016 for my master's degree at the University of Melbourne. And before this, I grew up in China and completed my bachelor's degree in the USA at Pennsylvania State University. After graduated from Uni Melb, I found a job as a coordinator in a retail company to support marketing sales and promotions. The experience of the retail sector was fun and creative. However, I still have a passion for data and analysis. Then there was an opportunity to join Wipro as an IT graduate. Fortunately, I caught this opportunity and be in the role for a year and a half.

Could someone with a different background do your job?

I would say No. The positions will require some knowledge of the technologies. For example, you will need to know how to use and what to use among the data tools to generate reports and meaningful results. Also, the position may require some basic knowledge of coding language to perform tasks.

What's the coolest thing about your job?

The best but also the most challenging part of my job is that I have got the opportunity to explore different roles and engage with diverse clients from all industries. Every project is a new start. It is exciting to own experience from variable positions.

What are the limitations of your job?

If you prefer regular working hours, then the support role such as system admin may not be your favourable choice. Especially for the systems or applications which require 24/7 care, you may need to take roster shifts or stay on stand-by on the weekends.
