Application Process & Interviews at Woodside Energy

Relatively good comms however for interns coming into the company, a timeline to set expectations would have helped significantly.

Good, actually looked beyond the uni scores.

There is fragmentation between woodsides core base business and new energy business resulting in fragmentation which stunts job opportunities and development due to internal politics.

Online test/games, online video interview- behaviour based questions, in person interview- technical questions, background check and medical.

I was recruited through a vacation program, which looked like applying online and completing screening assessments, an online recorded interview, and an in-person interview.

Online application, in-person interview.

An online application followed by online assessment and video interview, technical interview with senior company members and a behavioural interview with line manager.

Good process, but takes a long time.

I did mine a few years ago but overall it was good. I think the whole onboarding communication was quite late and last minute.

I was contacted after the Vacation Student program - so didn't do formal interviewing for my current position. But personality testing and 1-1 interviews were conducted for the Vacation Program.

Recruited in 2020, seamless process from internship -> part-time work -> early onboarding on the graduate program.

I felt comfortable in the interview as it was a conversation and the online portion was also easy but hard enough that people only applied if they really wanted the job

Psychometric games and interview

I felt the interview process was quite straightforward. I was asked questions directly relating to my discipline.

-Initial written application (extended response questions, resume/cover letter submission, academic transcript submission) -Psychometric testing (aptitude/patterns, possibly personality test too) -Skype interview with functional graduate coordinator + talent coordinator

Online pysc testing was very difficult and I thought would exclude many people, especially being game based and timed. Neurodiverse people would struggle, and especially people who are not used to online gaming. The interview process was good, though, I appreciated being interviewed by actual geos and not by HR.

Over the top, too many barriers or barriers that do not lead to meaningful outcomes - talent is being missed and picked up elsewhere.

Basic lateral thinking cognition checks followed by subject matter knowledge.

Some technical scenario based questions and general questions (why this company etc)

2 technical questions and a few behavioural questions. As well as the basics like what do you study, why did you choose this company etc.

Academic background, technical knowledge related to the business function I applied for and motivations for applying.

General Question on company culture, values and how personal characteristics can relate to the values. Special/technical questions relevant to the division you applied.

I interviewed with SS&PL who had quite good questions. A few on character i.e. do you see yourself as a leader etc. One tricky/problem solving question which was: if you have a X tonne block at X depth, how much volume would you need in a ballon attached to the block to float it. A few to test how you think, i.e. if you had a leak subsea how would you measure it, give a sales pitch to sell a hoverboard (with follow up questions).

General personality questions and scenario based.

Mix of personality and technical questions. Technical questions are not disciple specific but focus on general problem solving/critical thinking skills

I was asked behavioural questions as well as abstract problem solving questions.

Interviews focused on experience in safety, values, technical ability and knowledge as well as leadership skills and change management. All questions required the STAR method of response. (Situation, task, action, result)

Be yourself. I felt that my interview related more to me as a person, my values and if I was a good fit with the company's culture rather than my skill level/training being questioned. Woodside is happy to spend money on good people and train them up.

Know your area well and don't be afraid to say "I don't know, but I'll find out".

Be yourself in an interview, trust your abilities and what you have learnt in university. Technical questions focus on how you think about problems and go about solving them rather than actually knowing the answer.

Be curious - ask as many questions as possible when interviewing

Be yourself and know your why. Research the company, their assets, locations etc.

Understanding your strengths, company objectives, cultures. be prepared for the technical questions. Showing you are thinking about collaboration, leadership and problem-solving skills when answering the interview questions.

Not really, just have a go.

Be genuine and yourself. Can-do attitude and willingness to learn goes a long way. I don't believe Woodside is looking for the highest achievers.

Read about the companies values, understand the structure and the current change occurring for the business

Look at the 'Our Values' part of the website. These are the key attributes that guide whether you will be an effective fit into the culture at woodside.

1) Do your research and understand the company that you are keen to work for. 2) An inquisitive and keen to learn mind is as important as experience/knowledge.

Have multiple examples for each type of question you may be asked

Work for other companies prior to woodside that throw you in the deep end.

Be honest, show your personality, Cultural fit.

Prepare specific and meaningful examples to highlight your strengths. Honestly identify your areas for development, in a way that demonstrates you are aware of them and working on them. Be polite, well mannered and respectful of the people and venue.

Look through the company values and really know your resume quite well and be able to pick scenarios from work to answer questions.

-Make sure you have a list of your key projects/extra curriculars/past jobs and how aspects of them link to company values -Make sure you've researched the company and have an answer for why you want to work there -Have previous work experience (e.g. hospitality, retail, engineering)

Research the company and think about why you would like to work for Woodside. Practice answering questions using the STAR (Situation, task, action, result) technique.
