The Story of BOC Australia

BOC’s history begins six years before the company was established. In 1880, the two brothers Leon and Arthur Brin gained their first patents on a chemical process for separating oxygen. In 1886, they founded Brin’s Oxygen Company (BOC) which later on became the British Oxygen Company.

In 1935, the Commonwealth Industrial Gases was founded in Australia. Besides atmospheric gases, they also supply different types of gas and gas mixtures to customers. In 2006, BOC and Linde joined forces to become part of The Linde Group.

Today, with a network of retail stores, production facilities, and distribution centres, BOC supplies chemicals, compressed, bulk and pipeline gases, and clean engineering solutions across the South Pacific.

The company’s gases and expertise have helped a wide range of industries, including chemical processing, steelmaking, refining, welding and cutting, environmental protection, wastewater treatment, glass production, food processing and distribution, electronics and health care.

Recruitment process

Through their website, you can browse jobs and search for the roles that would interest you. Prepare your application documents, then send them your CV, cover letter, and any other specified relevant documents. They will confirm the receipt of your application via email, and get to work checking whether your profile matches their vacancy. If so, you will be invited for the first interview, sometimes via phone or video.

The first interview will be with the hiring manager and a department representative or HR colleague. As part of the interview, they will ask you to complete an online psychometric test that will help them to identify your strengths and preferences. They will also ask you questions about your experience and some behavioural-based questions. They will also answer your questions about the role, the team, and BOC as a whole.

If you pass, you will need to attend the follow-up interview, where you have to demonstrate your skills (e.g. excel test) and meet potential colleagues. They will get to know you better, understand your strengths, skills, what you are passionate about, and what motivates you.

If you succeed, the next stage is checking your references and background. They will conduct a complete background check, which includes a right-to-work and criminal history check.  You will also be invited to attend a pre-employment medical. The tests vary depending on the type of role. If successful, you will receive a letter of offer.
