Inspired by lifestyle. Driven by opportunity.

That's the vision of the City of Gold Coast.

We are forward thinking – we dream large, build big and rise to emerging opportunities.

We are vibrant – we love colour, movement and variety. We are diverse and multicultural.

We are balanced – we don’t live to work, we work to live.

We are connected – along a sandy strip, a suburban spine, a highway. We’re a collection of villages, each with its own character, united by our collective pride.

We are warm – we are friendly with a sunny smile and that ‘have-a-go’ attitude. Many of us have come from elsewhere and as such extend the welcome to others.

As the second largest local government authority in Australia, with a future-focused culture, a sense of purpose and possibility, and real opportunities to strengthen our diverse community, the City of Gold Coast is a great place to belong.

Home to over 635,000 people, the Gold Coast is the sixth largest city in Australia. People are our most valuable asset and we are focused on building a culture that empowers every person to do their best work.

With a vibrant arts and culture scene, a beautiful natural environment, spectacular beaches, waterways, hinterland ranges and world-class tourism attractions, we also have a proud history and a heritage to preserve and protect for future generations.

Supporting Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

The City of Gold Coast is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We understand that building a workforce that reflects the diversity of the people we serve is integral to creating thriving, sustainable communities. All qualified candidates are considered and actively encouraged for placement and employment opportunities. The City is committed to creating a diverse workplace and inclusive culture by fostering opportunities for all, creating a work environment that is safe and respectful, where everyone feels empowered to share their unique background, ideas and talents.

Recruitment Process

There are several steps in the recruitment process. This process is designed to give you the best opportunity to showcase your skills and suitability for the role.

  • Online Application

The first stage is the online application form, where you will provide your resume, cover letter, academic transcript, nominate your chosen business area and respond to pre-screening questions. It is important you provide information about your career objectives, work experience, education, volunteering and any extracurricular activities, special skills or interests you take part in.

  • Video Interviewing

You may be invited to participate in a one-way video interview. If so, you will receive a link and instructions to record your responses to questions. You will need access to a computer with a web camera or you can do it from a smart phone. The selection panel will review the videos and further shortlist candidates.

  • Interview and/or Assessment Centre

If you are successfully shortlisted, you may be invited to an interview and/or an assessment centre where you will have the opportunity to meet City Leaders.

In the interview you will be asked to demonstrate your suitability for the role through technical and behavioural-based interview questions. Your responses should include relevant examples that demonstrate your ability and/or experience.

In the assessment centre you will have the opportunity to demonstrate your skills by participating in a range of interactive activities. Assessment centre exercises are used to measure position related competencies, including interpersonal skills, oral and written communication, planning and evaluating and problem-solving abilities.

  • Reference Checking

Reference checks are completed as part of our recruitment process. We ask you to preferably provide at least two recent professional referees who have first-hand knowledge of your work performance. If you are unable to provide professional referees, you may provide character references like a tutor, lecturer or professor. These referees may be contacted at any time throughout the recruitment process, so it is important that you ask them if they are willing to provide a reference for you.

  • Offer

If you are successful – congratulations! You will receive a phone call from the hiring manager to talk you through next steps. You will then receive all the relevant documentation from our People and Culture team.

All unsuccessful applicants will be notified either verbally or via email as soon as possible after the selection panel have reached their decision.

  • Pre-employment Screening

All offers of employment are subject to applicable satisfactory completion pre-employment checks (which may include but is not limited to Right to Work in Australia, a pre-employment alcohol and other drugs or medical screening to confirm the ability to perform the inherent requirements of the role and criminal history checks). There are no associated costs to individuals.
