Salary at Department of Employment and Workplace Relations (DEWR)

What are your thoughts on pay and bonuses at your company?
Whilst the starting salary is fine, the earlier mentioned quick progression up the ranks during the graduate program means the salary increases quickly as well, making the pay, plus the flexibility and entitlements very good in my view.

I don't know what (if any) bonuses there are working here but I think the pay is good for my current workload.
Graduate, Canberra - 30 Aug 2024
great pay - but I feel like I offer more than I am being paid during the graduate program. This will even out in the coming months.
Graduate, Canberra - 30 Aug 2024
The pay is competitive compared to other grad programs and progression through the APS classifications is swift. I started the grad program at APS3 level, was promoted to APS4 mid-way through the 10 month program and will be promoted to APS5 at the end of the program, pending successful completion.

The pay is quite good for entry level staff

Pay is okay, what bonuses though?
Graduate, Canberra - 25 Oct 2023
The prospect of year-over-year real-wage cuts is disconcerting. A lot of employees seem to already do a lot of unpaid work, now the Department seems to want to pay them less. Additionally, bonuses based on individual performance seem absurd - they create perverse incentives and toxic work environments when people are competing against each other rather than working together. If there are bonuses, they should be distributed equally to all employees to prevent such perverse incentives.

The pay is relatively good compared to other APS departments.

Pay and bonuses are generally very good for the roles as given.

What are your company's best or most unusual perks? For example: free tickets, free dinners, moving expenses, taxis, pension, etc.
I love being able to work with classified material as someone fascinated with public policy making and seeing how it works internally. Concerning conventional perks, after working a few years in Canberra, public servants usually can work anywhere they want in the country, which whilst I'm content in Canberra, would certainly be amazing for others.

Generous sick leave, including bereavement/compassionate leave.
Graduate, Canberra - 30 Aug 2024
mostly typical perks. $500 for 'health purchases' (unmonitored) is nice.
Graduate, Canberra - 30 Aug 2024
No perks
Graduate, Canberra - 01 Nov 2023
There is not an abundance of extra perks however, the leave policy is quite generous, and we receive a small wellbeing bonus every year.
Graduate, Canberra - 30 Oct 2023
Flex leave
Graduate, Canberra - 27 Oct 2023
A health and wellbeing payment to spend how each employee sees fit.
Graduate, Canberra - 25 Oct 2023
Moving expenses.
Graduate, Canberra - 23 Oct 2023
There are perks that come with being part of employee networks, such as being invited to special events (e.g. lunches, dinners) that are fully covered by the networks. The Graduate Certificate also has a celebratory lunch at the end of the course.

Superannuation is 15.4%.

The flex system works really well. The yearly health bonus is also really good. The Christmas shutdown period and associated pay/leave
