Hydro Tasmania: who are we?

We are proud to be Australia’s largest producer of renewable energy.

The energy we generate – across 54 dams, 30 hydropower stations and two windfarms – powers all of Tasmania. It’s also exported to mainland Australia for distribution across the National Electricity Market.

Why choose us?

It’s an exciting time in the energy sector as Australia transitions to renewables – and we are delighted to be leading the way. If you’re seeking a supportive work environment that’s both challenging and rewarding, Hydro Tasmania could be the ideal place to launch your career.

We have a long history in Tasmania through our core operations but we also benefit from national and international perspectives. Our retail arm Momentum Energy supplies energy to customers on mainland Australia, and our power and water consulting business Entura supports client projects across the globe.

Our employees rate the work-life balance as the best aspect of working for us. You can expect flexible hours that leave plenty of time to enjoy the laid-back Tasmanian lifestyle.

We are big believers in the importance of giving back to society. We have strong links with local non-profit organisations, an annual community grant program, and a corporate volunteering scheme that allows employees to use working days to attend volunteer events and activities.

What to expect from our Graduate Programs?

Our Graduate Programs take place over two or three years, depending on your specialism. The programs have been carefully designed to support different career pathways and provide you with full exposure to a range of roles within the organisation.

What Graduates Say About Them
  • Interesting work, the company values helping the community, work/life balance, remuneration
  • Great mix of on-site and off-site work. I am the sort of person that enjoys getting their hands dirty and working with the site crews. Big cool assets from a large variety of manufacturers, so there's always something unusual to solve.
  • Encouragement and support for graduates working on major projects with other staff. Large focus on development opportunities with a training budget for grads each FY.
  • Hydro Tasmania has a very steep learning curve in regard to its systems and processes which can take a new starter a while to get their head around.
  • It’s a big, old business with a lot of legacy issues and it’s sometimes overwhelming. It’s hard to see and implement improvement because there is a lot of people who have been around for a long time.
  • The company doesn't have a strong knowledge base for reference, forum to whats happening in the whole organisation level, and a lack of documentation/content.
