Public Sector Commission Graduate Programs & Internships

  • Government & Public Service

We are a central agency.

Our job is to develop a future-fit public service for the people of Western Australia. We do this by shaping, building and regulating the public sector so it can tackle the public policy challenges of both today and tomorrow.

Shaping is about setting values, standards and expectations. Building is about helping our people do their best work and working with agencies to be the best they can be. Regulating is about providing assurance, oversight and reporting. We do this work with others.

In essence, we are about the performance and improvement of both people and agencies.

Graduate program

Graduates are an important part of our workforce. Our 12-month program will start Monday 1 February 2021.

During that time, you will undertake a series of diverse and challenging work rotations which will provide exposure to our diverse operations, while allowing you to develop a range of valuable skills and capabilities, including:

  • policy development
  • working on whole of sector projects that result in recommendations being made to Corporate Executive for implementation
  • ability to interpret legislation, policies and procedures
  • research, conceptual and data analytical skills
  • teamwork, networking and communication skills.

The program provides you with ‘hands-on’ experience and offers you the opportunity to work both independently and collaboratively on a wide variety of projects, allowing you to build new capabilities in an exciting and supportive environment.

Supporting diversity

The Commission is committed to progressing diversity and inclusion in the sector, and value the richness that comes from a workforce that truly understands and appreciates the needs of the community.

To be eligible for this employment program, applicants must be aged 24 years and under. This is a measure intended to achieve equality in accordance with Section 66ZP of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984.

The Commission also strongly encourages Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and people with disability to apply for this opportunity (as per Sections 51 and 66R of the Act).

Graduate opportunities:

Our Graduates participate in the Graduate launch program. This program gives graduates already employed in the sector the skills and tools they need for a successful career.

This year's virtual program sees 47 enthusiastic graduates from across the sector work in teams to tackle challenges and explore ideas that can help get WA on the road to recovery.

These programs are part of our work to create a future-fit, collaborative and diverse public sector, and help today’s young people develop the skills to be tomorrow’s public sector leaders.
