The State School Teachers’ Union (SSTUWA) gives members a strong voice in the workplace, in discussions with the Department of Education and promotes quality public education for all in the community.
Since 1898, teachers, school administrators and lecturers in WA government schools and TAFE colleges have joined together to look after the interests of members and to promote public education. We also offer complimentary membership for all those studying a teaching degree.
The teaching profession is a collaborative, collegial one and the SSTUWA is best placed to advocate on behalf of members to ensure the integrity and quality of public education is protected and defended.
With members’ participation, the union negotiates improvements in teachers’ salaries, entitlements and conditions. The SSTUWA has secured a number of achievements for members: class size limits, graduate entitlements, paid family and domestic violence leave, various allowances and much more. The larger the membership base, the more powerful the SSTUWA is at the bargaining table.

Free student membership lapses at graduation. You will need to reapply for full, financial membership to be covered by the SSTUWA as a teacher.
