Project Development Intern at Transgrid
Bachelor of Engineering Honours at University of Technology, Sydney (UTS)
5.30 AM
I squeeze in an hour of uni before work.
6.30 AM
Breakfast and head to the train station.
7.30 AM
Thursday is my team’s day in head office so I am working from Ultimo today.
8.15 AM
Arrive at the office and look at some emails. I am working on three projects at the moment. Two Transmission Line Refurbishment Projects and a Project to Install Phase Monitoring Units at several Transgrid’s Substations.
10.00 AM
End of Month Forecast Review Meeting. It is the end of the month, so I meet the Project team via Teams. We run through an update on where the project is at in terms of timing and forecast labour costs for the month ahead.
10.30 AM
I then do weekly reporting for my projects on the Sharepoint page. This gives my managers a snapshot of key milestones achieved and escalations/issues.
11.00 AM
Run a Project Risk Workshop on Teams for my Transmission Line Refurb Project. There were lots of people in the office today, so I did my meeting from the Wintergarden where it was a bit more quiet.
In the meeting is the Construction Manager and Project team. We discussed the project risks and assigned risk dollars to each risk. One of the major project risks discussed was ground conditions being worse than expected.
12.15 PM
There are some great lunch options in Ultimo. Today I headed to Japanese with some of the Project Development Team.
1.00 PM
Spent some time doing a quick check of the Issued for Construction Designs that the design consultant on my lines projects has sent through. I checked that all scope is covered in the package. I then send this to the Internal Transgrid Design Team for review.
1.30 PM
Another End of Month Forecast Review Meeting.
2.00 PM
Coffee Run with the team.
2.30 PM
Respond to some more emails: emails from Asset Management with queries on which insulators are being replaced as part of my Transmission Line Refurb projects; emails with the design consultant on my Transmission line Projects to ask for updates to designs; and respond to some emails about a cost estimate for the Phase Monitoring Unit Project and send some emails about design queries.
3.30 PM
I then start drafting a Concept Scoping Report for one of my Transmission Line Projects. This is the governance document in Transgrid that, when approved, allows a project to process to the next Design Gate.
5.15 PM
Time to leave the office, today I am heading to the gym after work.
6.45 PM
CrossFit Class.
8.00 PM
Eat dinner and get ready for another day in the office tomorrow.
