The National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Staff Network (NATSISN) is a network run by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander employees. Its vision is to build a culturally safe and aware workplace environment that is built on mutually respectful relationships and appreciation.
The Network helps celebrate a number of events throughout the year including NAIDOC Week, Reconciliation Week, Mabo Day and the Coming of the Light festival.
The department demonstrates its commitment by the following:
- NATSISN’s affiliate membership, Friend of the Network, through which non-Indigenous employees can show their commitment to reconciliation and learn about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures and communities.
- 2017-19 Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP). Health’s Innovative Reconciliation Action Plan 2021 – 2023 is currently being developed through the RAP Working Group and Reconciliation Australia.
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Employment and Retention Strategy
- An immersive Cultural Competency Program is currently being developed
