Graduate Engineers have access to very generous training budgets, during my time I have enjoyed a significant amount of internal and external training.

I have undertaken informal training regarding basic protection studies for HV and EHV power systems. On the job training differs from rotation to rotation. Currently, for my rotation within Secondary Systems Design - Automation, I will soon undertake an internal training course regarding Transmission Protection.

Training depends on the team and department. Generally, the organisation is very supportive of learning and training. A lot of internal training and learning opportunities are available.

People usually too busy to really help train you up, a lot of it is just learning as you go

Formal training programs are far and few between. The on the job training is good thanks to the expertise of the staff.

Limited formal training. I would have liked more opportunities for formal training. Plenty of high quality informal training thanks to the ability of the experienced staff. You are generally able to do your job just from the informal training. However, I find that getting external training after some informal training elevates your understanding of the work. The best training generally comes to PLQ when a subject matter expert comes in externally to teach a specific course for a few days.

Good training opportunities, does require your own initiative in finding/signing up for training and also often requires some level of chasing up.

Haven't had much experience with the training. Only the online modules when I was hired which were sufficient however they took a long time to complete. Also completed online training for dashboard development but that wasn't run through Powerlink.

Formal training: iTOA, phishing awareness, workplace behaviour, health and safety. Non-formal training: HV protection fundamentals, control system and automation in HV subs, auto-reclose schemes.

They supported me in external accredited project management training provided a lot of online training content. I would have liked more face to face training with the technical skills required for my first rotation. but I learned a lot reading through anything I could find in the data base. I know a lot about construction and project management now. i always have my first aid training :)
